Release Writer’s Block Today

writer's block
writer’s block (Photo credit: K. Sawyer Photography)

Let’s get started! Yeah. So, what exactly is writer’s block anyway? It looks a bit like this:

I just can’t come up with a single thing to
say. I guess I’ll stop while I’m ahead!

Does this sound like you? No? Sure, come on now!! It’s alright. Just like you, we’ve all have at one time or another met this occurrence when we’ve had to write something, specifically when there’s been a deadline for us to meet.

Again I’m talking about this. . . . .uh, I know the word i want to use but
Dang it’s on the tip of my tongue . . .umm:

THAT’S WRITER’S BLOCK!

So what is writer’s block?
Writer’s block is the best friend of the blank page. HAA!
Then it happens, you may think you know EXACTLY what you’re going to write, but as soon as you blink and see the blank white screen or sheet of paper, your mind abruptly goes empty. Then you try to grab at least one word from anywhere to pick up the inactivity that came out of nowhere..But still nothing. No! I’m not talking about some Zen meditation close-your-eyes-and- breathe-until-enlightenment-comes kind of blank.

I’m talking about tightness in your shoulders. Pulsing tension in your shoulders and maybe your back. Sweat beads trickling down your face, kind of blank. To top it all off! The tighter the deadline, the more tension some writers experience. Some people get sick from writer’s block. Can you believe that?

Having said that, let me say it again. “The tighter
the deadline, the worse the tension in the body potentially of writer’s block
gets.” What might potentially be
triggering this unpleasant drop into speechlessness?

The answer is obvious: FEAR! Of what? Fear of finishing with crappy words. Or of not starting right. You are tense thinking of the big bad
blank page. You are so concerned that you have absolutely
nothing of value to say. You are reluctant of the fear of
writer’s block itself!

It doesn’t actually make any difference if you’ve done a several years
of research and all you have to do is string sentences
you can repeat in your sleep collectively into consistent
paragraphs. Writer’s block can hit anyone at any
time. Based in fear, it raises our doubts about our
own self-worth, but it’s funny. It’s also predictable if you remember it’s signs and don’t feed it with your thoughts.

Frontal lobe.
Frontal lobe. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

It’s writer’s block, after all, so it doesn’t just come and let you know
that. No, it makes you feel like a fool who just had
your frontal lobes removed just before trying to write. You are uneasy that if you write your words on paper would surely come out looking something like blah-blah-blah!

Let’s try to be rational with this irrational thing.
Here’s a list of what could be beneath
this mysteriously messy condition.

1. Perfectionism.

You must absolutely produce a
work of genius of literary works straight off in the first
draft. Or else, you meet the criteria of a total disappointment.

2. Editing instead of writing.

There’s your own voice literally sitting on your shoulder, yelling as you type “I was born?,” no, not that, that’s wrong! And saying things like, That’s stupid! Fix that. No that makes no sense. And no, no, no, no!

3. Self-consciousness. How can you think, let alone write, when all you can manage to do is replay what your readers will think about what you’re going to write. You go through each possible scenario in your mind instead of using the time to get started or brainstorming on the details you want to include in writing your work. No instead you’re focusing on what you’re trying to write, why you aren’t going to measure up and no so motivating thoughts such as that.

4. Can’t get started.

It’s always the first sentence that’s the most challenging many writers say. Or is it? As writers, we all know how EXTREMELY important the first sentence is. In your mind, It must be brilliant! It must be unique! It must hook your reader’s from the start! There’s no way we can get into writing the piece until we get beyond the GREAT first sentence!

5. Shattered concentration.

You’re cat is sick. You suspect your significant other is not feeling to well either. Your electricity
might be turned off any second. Maybe you have a crush on
the local mailman. You have a dinner party coming up and you’re the host of it. Guess who’s coming? Your in-laws of course. . . Need I say more.

6. Procrastination. It’s your favorite hobby. It’s
your soul mate. It’s the reason you’ve knitted 6 sweaters or built 9 bookcases in your garage. It’s the reason you never run out of peanut butter sandwiches, you never know when you might need another snack.

7. Not enough sleep.

You stay up all times of the night and day and your brain is filled with fuzz as a result. You’re not in-sync like you usually are when you’ve had your sleep. How can you get any work done under these conditions?

There’s a positive in all this! What could be positive about this? Well, the good thing is that, You have WRITER’S BLOCK for at least one of these reasons! Now let’s see what you can do about it!

How to Overcome Writer’s Block

Okay. I can hear you running away from reading
this article as fast as you can. Absurd! you say.
Never in a million years, you fume. You’re thinking…Writer’s block is
absolutely, undeniably, scientifically proven to be
impossible to overcome. Never ever will they find a cure for it!

Ha! not so fast there. Stop fuming and Oh, just get over it!
Well, maybe your guess is that it’s not so
easy. Come and sit back down for just a few minutes and
listen. All you have to do is listen? To top it off, you don’t have
to actually write a single word for now anyway.

The fumes are dissipating…
Ah, there you are again. I am beginning to make
you out now that the cloud of dust is settling.

I am here to tell you that WRITER’S BLOCK CAN BE
OVERCOME.

Please, stay seated.

There are ways to trick this phenomena. Here are a few possibilities that WORK
great every time! Pick one, pick several, and give them a try. Quickly, before you
even have a chance for your heartbeat to accelerate,
guess what? You’re creating with your writing again.

Here are some tried and legitimate possibilities of conquering
writer’s block:

1. Be prepared. The only thing to fear is fear itself.
(I know, that’s a cliché? but as soon as you start
writing, feel free to improve on it this saying.)
If you spend some time thinking over your project before you
actually sit down to write, you may be able to
avoid the toughest of the massive anxiety.

2. Forget perfectionism. No one ever writes a
masterpiece in the first draft. Don’t put any
expectations on your writing at all! In fact, tell
yourself you’re going to write absolute crap, and
then give yourself approval to enjoyably smell up your
writing room with your spontaneous first draft.

3. Compose instead of editing. Never, never write your
first draft with your thoughts inside your head making snide editorial comments. For your information Composing is a magical process. It surpasses the conscious mind by
galaxies. It’s even incomprehensible to the conscious,
editorial, first-mind. So prepare an ambush. Sit down
at your laptop, computer or your desk. Take a deep breath and
blow out all your thoughts. Let your finger float over
your keyboard or pick up your pen. And then pull a
fake: appear to be about to begin to write, but
instead, using your thumb and index finger of your
predominant hand, flick that little annoying negative voice sitting on your shoulder
back into the barrel of laughs from which it came. Then leap
in? Quickly! Write, scribble, scream, howl, sketch but let
everything loose, as long as you do it with a pen, pencil or
your computer keyboard.

4. Forget the first sentence. Clean it up later. You can sweat over that
all-important one-liner when you’ve finished your
piece. Skip it! Go for the middle or even the end.
Start wherever you can. Chances are, when you read it
over, the first line will be blinking its little neon
lights right at you from the depths of your
composition. It’s not that serious anyway. You can always come back to it.

5. Concentration. This is a tricky one. Life throws us
so many curve balls. How about thinking about your
writing time as a little getaway from all those
tasks, lists etc and so on. It’s time to write so Banish them! Create a space, perhaps
even a physical one, where nothing exists except the
single present moment. If one of those irritating
worries gets by you, stomp it by staying with your plan.

6. Stop procrastinating. I know this is a favorite for some.
No writing gets done until it’s actually done! Write an outline. Keep your
research notes within view. Use someone else’s
writing to get going. I would say go online then read a line or two of someones blog or an article. Uhh maybe not. You may end up on FACEBOOK Or Twitter. Better yet uh, Go open a book and start reading just two lines then GO write, fast, fast !
Anymore reading and you’re back to square one again, What we call the procrastination drum line. Or open your mouth and start to Babble incoherently in the air then rapidly on paper or on the computer if you prefer.

Writer's Block

WRITE! Just do it! (I know, this is a line stolen from
somewhere?). But whatever It’s time to get your act together.
Start a piece, and in turn you will one day finish.
If you don’t start somewhere…Where will you be?
NOWHERE. SO, go like the wind and Tack up anything that could help
you to get you writing: notes, outlines, pictures of your
grandmother, pictures of your childhood toys, your favorite actor or actress.
Put a piece of fruit or cookie you will be allowed to eat
when you finish your first draft within sight but
out of your reach. Then pick up some of your earlier works and notice your styles of writing. You need juice to write, so use your memories and read it. Then read it
again. Soon, trust me, the apprehension will slowly but surely fade away.
As soon as it does, grab your keyboard or writing piece? Then get
writing! congratulations on your work ahead of time, you did it!

The Wondrous Benefits Of Reading Go On and On…

Cover of Start to Read (Mr. Men and Little Miss)

Ever since I can clearly remember I shared a love of reading with my father. All I wanted to do was to learned about how to communicate better when I was in grade school. I never waited for class to start to read because I always had a book with me. I’m a passionate reader as I’m sure you are too. No matter what, I read daily. It’s my favorite way to spend the day. What about you? What attracts you to reading? I was sitting round thinking  why people love reading so much and what’s the attraction to it, as I ponder wow there are so many!

Are you challenging  your brain effectively?

Are you missing out on the joy of reading?

Or Is it true that you are a word enthusiast?

There are many clues that reveal exactly who the avid readers are in your bunch are while also revealing who they aren’t as well. In the social zone, bookworm’s often stick out like happy nerds should! Being a nerd isn’t at all a bad thing. I’m passing out compliments. See, there are great things that come as a result of being a book fan all your life.

For one thing, most people who read regularly have the keen skills to think and communicate exceptionally well. This is not to say that people who don’t get hyped about a new book are crappy readers at all. But you know you’ve seen the magic spark in the eye of those who love what they get out of educating them selves with the words they read. Hands down bookies are pretty much honored by others and this is probably because of the need for uncanny communication in the world. Wouldn’t you agree that we can use more of it?! Indeed yes!

The ageless Art of Reading expands the mental faculties by leaps and bounds. In fact, reading is documented as one of the most satisfying pleasures of people today. Reading is more than merely staring onto a paper with words on it.. there’s also a combination of eye, hand and mental action that make it a bit of an exercise.

There are other elements at work when you’re reading but reading is mainly a mental thing. Reading and watching television are somewhat comparable. Although honestly, reading will make you smarter in the end. Think about it! Sitting and watching a screen versus actively processing and breaking down information by reasoning to arrive at a conclusion that sheds light on the information in the book..yes this process takes time plus patience! But that’s exactly why reading when compared to watching ‘the box’ still have a considerable distance between them as far as overall rewards are concerned.

Still, reading even improves your vocabulary too. So at this point you’re expanding your mind and gain clarity through your brain by reading this article thus utilizing your eyes to plant the mixture of information you are mentally assimilating. Reading boosts your vocabulary through comprehension. A lot of book lovers have an extensive vocabulary. This is helpful in school, work and in interacting with others.

The memory is another area that’s improved through on going reading. Remember when you played a game of match or crosswords how you got sharper on your word play as a result of playing a game? In reading you have to catch details, story plots, scenes, characters, descriptions and facts too. All this mental multitasking builds your brain up in more ways than most of us know.

Although reading is certainly fun, creative and even a great hobby or past time. The discipline it builds in you are guaranteed to enrich all areas of your life! There’s no better time than the present so Get your reading on!

Making Your Marriage More Passionate

Making Your Marriage More Passionate

When you were courting, all you could think about was how exciting and romantic it was to be together. Back then, you couldn’t do enough to please each other. As time passed, you got so accustomed to married life that you stopped making special efforts for each other. There were always so many responsibilities and details to take care of, that who could think about romance? Maybe you’ve been missing those blissful feelings — and you sense that your partner misses them too. Here are a few ways to put more romance back into your marriage.

Pay attention to your appearance

There’s a saying: Beauty’s only skin deep, but ugliness goes right through to the bone. Too often, people who’ve been married for years no longer feel the need to go through the effort of looking good for their partner.

If your wife doesn’t enjoy seeing you lounging around the house in your underwear, or if your husband is bothered by seeing you in worn out slippers and an old bathrobe, don’t ignore it. Doing that is a lot like saying: “We’re married. Therefore, I don’t have to bother putting on any kind of show. You’re always going to be there, so I don’t have to worry about pleasing you.” After you become indifferent to your appearance, your spouse may have a hard time seeing you in a romantic and exciting way.

There’s nothing wrong with being comfortable around the house. But do yourself, your spouse, and your marriage a favor by paying attention to your dress and personal hygiene. Show your husband or wife that you care by taking the time to look, feel, and smell good.

Use words of love

Saying the words “I love you” is always a good idea — as long as they’re said sincerely. Everyone appreciates being told how much they’re loved and cherished.

Here are some ways to expand that simple three-word phrase:

Share your hopes, dreams, and secret thoughts. There are some things that you can only communicate through words. And few things make your partner feel closer to you than letting her in on your most private thoughts and visions.

When your goal is to create more closeness in your marriage, you want to share only thoughts and emotions that are likely to make your partner feel loved and wanted. Save any worries that are likely to generate anger or tears for another time.

Tell your partner often how much you love being married to her. Then, talk about the qualities you enjoy most. Is it her terrific sense of humor? The way he greets you at the door when you come home from work? Married couples often spend a lot of time complaining about one another’s faults and shortcomings. If you want to stir up the romantic fires in your relationship, try letting her know what she does that pleases you most.

Use a gentle touch

The way people touch each other communicates different feelings and provokes different sensations. Wives often complain that their husbands touch them only when they want sex. Women seem to like more hand holding, kissing, and gentle physical closeness than men. So, guys, don’t wait for bedtime to touch and fondle your wife. Make it part of the way you communicate every day.

The absence of affectionate touching doesn’t always mean that there’s a problem in the marriage. However, a certain amount of gentle, non-sexual touching enhances closeness and heightens the sense of romance between the partners. This touching can take many forms, like caressing your partner’s face, putting an arm around her back, or stroking his hair.

Marriage

Make time to be alone together

When husbands and wives don’t spend enough time alone, they are bound to grow apart. And when a couple already has problems, they often distance themselves from one another by using kids, friends, family members — even groups of strangers — as buffers.

Couples with young children need to make a special effort to find time to be by themselves. Sure, it’s not always easy to find a babysitter. It often seems easier to drag the kids along to wherever you’re going. That may be conducive to a rich family life, but you need to balance that with time for the two of you.

Make it your business to find at least a few hours each week for the two of you to be alone together. Go for a walk, movie, or ballgame. Meet for lunch. Take a cooking class together. Try to get away overnight as often as possible.

Simply logging in time together won’t make your relationship more romantic. What you need to do is to spend uninterrupted time sharing thoughts, ideas, and activities in a way that gives you pleasure and draws you closer as a couple.

Play and laugh together

When the routines of day-to-day life begin to take over, you may forget that playing together is as important as working together. Few things help you appreciate the good things in life — and in your marriage — than adding a touch of child-like playfulness.

Watch the way children play; the way they seem to take pleasure from each moment. Adults often let themselves get so loaded down with pressures and responsibilities that they forget how important it is to have fun.

Think of play as any activity that you enjoy together. It may be taking a drive in the country, going to the zoo, or taking up ballroom dancing. Or stay home, order in a pizza, and rent a couple of videos. Whatever makes the two of you smile and feel light-hearted.

Different kinds of playfulness are appropriate at different times. For example, some play involves the kind of intimate touching most couples would only do behind closed doors — though there are some couples who enjoy fooling around with each other in public. There are also very public kinds of playfulness, like spending time at an amusement park or dressing up for a costume party. Almost anything is fair game if you both find it pleasurable.

Revisit your shared history

Is there a special spot where you used to spend time when you were courting? A certain restaurant near your first apartment where the two of always had Sunday brunch? How long has it been since you’ve been back to those places?

Return to the locations that have special meaning to you — on a regular basis, if possible. It may not be practical for you to go back to the exotic island where you spent your honeymoon, but what about revisiting that park where you used to stroll together hand in hand, or that beach where you spent a week the summer you first met? Revisiting places that are special to you will help keep the romance alive in your marriage.

Continue to seek out new romantic places and rituals, and add them to the ones you already have.

Your shared history as a couple is ongoing. The special experiences and meaningful rituals that you create over the course of your marriage help you have a richer and more romantic life together.

1. Feel good! No need to create a vision board if you are not joyful about life and the process of creating more of it in your life. I listen to music, dance, sing, meditate or call friends over so we can make it a party and work on our boards together.

2. Choose images from the computer, internet, magazines or digital camera.

3. Write your goals on paper first. I find this to be the easiest way to decide what you want to manifest. This list of goals will help you with choosing photos and words for your vision board.

4. Search for photos and words or sentences that match the goals on your list. Search for photos where ever you prefer. Tip: Choose photos that make you feel warm, joyful, fulfilled when you look at them.

5. Take the photos you have collected and begin to add a small amount of tape or glue to the backs of the photos if you chose magazine clippings (my favorite) or random old photos or printed pictures off of your computer or the internet.

6. Paste the photos on the board one by one or two by two. Write energizing, action oriented words to the board with your marker if you need to. Then, add the printed words and sentences you found on the side, top or on the bottom of the photo clippings that are now pasted on your board. There is no wrong way to create your vision board. Be creative. But get it done!

7. Put your vision board in your bed room, or anywhere in your living space where you will spend a lot of time. Stand in front of and smile when you want to. Look at your board and imagine your life with all that you want in it. See the visual of having your desired goals in the present tense ‘NOW’ enjoy it. Savor the sights. Repeat several times a day and throughout the month.
