100% Raw Food Diets May Not Be The Best For You.

Raw Food Diets – The Ayurvedic Perspective

There is much confusion as to what is the healthiest diet for us to consume–a predominantly raw food diet or a cooked-food diet? On the one hand we have raw food enthusiasts recommending a natural diet of 100% raw food. This is based on the fact that raw food is high in nutrients, enzymes, and prana (life energy). Some raw foodists can get quite fanatical about their philosophy that cooked food equals “dead food” which has lost most of its nutrients. Others have their Chinese or Ayurvedic doctor recommend mostly cooked foods and see a lot of their health issues disappear on such a diet. Now who is right and who is wrong? I myself have experienced the benefits of raw foods and especially juicing, which manifest in increased energy, clarity of mind, radiant complexion, and weight loss, just to mention a few. There are certainly many documented cases of individuals overcoming serious health issues, some life threatening, through adherence to a raw food regime. And of course I have to agree, that some types of cooked food are not very good for you when consumed over a long period of time – fried foods, heavily salted food, over-cooked vegetables, microwaved food, etc.

However, everyone is different, and diet must be individualized. There is no one single diet that is “best” for everyone. Some people will do best on raw, others on macrobiotic diets. Also, a 100% raw food diet can be problematic – even though a good healing diet, it can create problems in the long run.

Below are the symptoms and problems associated with a long-term strict raw food or vegan diet:

* a general lack of vitality

* low body temperature (always cold)

* a weak digestive system with a loss of digestive strength

* food cravings

* rapid growth of grey hair

* stalled weight loss due to low metabolism

* emaciation

* amenorrhea (menstrual cycles cease), even in young women

* loss of libido

* hair loss and nail problems

* dental erosion

* insomnia and neurological problems

* constipation

* diarrhea

* infertility

Obviously, the modern Western diet sickens us with its overload of meat, salt, bad fats, white sugar, white flour, and its deficiency of living foods.

There is no question that cooking deactivates some vital nutrients, including enzymes, but cooking also makes digestion less stressful. Many people with poor digestion don’t handle raw foods or beans very well, which is in part why macrobiotic diets may have worked for some people recovering from various maladies. The higher proportion of nutrients in raw food is useless if the food can’t be digested, absorbed and assimilated. Cooking contracts vegetable foods, concentrating more nutrients with less bulk. Bitter greens like spinach and kale are generally more edible when cooked, because cooking also eliminates the oxalic acid, which interferes with calcium absorption.

Cooking significantly improves the digestibility/bioavailability of starchy foods such as potatoes and yams, squashes, grains, and legumes. Legumes need to be soaked and cooked thoroughly, otherwise they contain enzyme blockers, that inhibit protein and carbohydrate metabolism. They also contain lectins, phytic acid and saponins that are deactivated by cooking. Lectins play a role in certain auto-immune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory diseases. Green beans always need to be cooked until soft otherwise they are toxic! Raw beans are poisonous because they contain prussic acid, which is de-activated only by cooking. Beta-carotene absorption can be as low as 1-2% from raw vegetables such as carrots. Mild heating, such as steaming, appears to improve the extractability of beta-carotene from vegetables, and also its bioavailability. Mineral losses from cooking are insignificant.

Lycopene in tomatoes has been hypothesized to be responsible for reducing the risk of some cancers and heart disease. The cooking of tomatoes with olive oil is a characteristic combination in the Mediterranean diet. Previous studies have shown that the absorption of lycopene is greater from cooked tomatoes.

The Ayurvedic Perspective:

There is not just one dietary approach that would be ideal for everyone. In order to correctly determine our optimal requirements we need to examine many factors. We have to take into account the individuals constitution (prakruti), the nature of their imbalance and symptoms (vikruti), the seasonal and climatic influences, stage of life, occupation, etc.

In general, those of a pitta, or pitta/kapha constitution, can do very well on some raw food in their diet, especially in the late spring and summer. But if someone has a severe vata imbalance, characterized by insomnia, excessive worry and anxiety, sense of being overwhelmed, spaceyness, dryness, gas, bloating, constipation, or amenorrhea, they may need nourishing, warm, moist, easily digestible cooked food as part of their healing journey.

Someone with a kapha imbalance can easily develop sinus problems, asthma, or allergies on a raw food diet.

My recommendation for those who chose to follow a raw food diet is to apply some of the ancient Ayurvedic wisdom to help avoid potential problems and help you stay well. Ayurveda recognizes our unique individual differences.

Balancing a Raw Food Diet With Ayurveda:

By using these simple Ayurvedic principles, any diet can be made more balancing:

* Daily warm oil massage (using unrefined, organic sesame oil), Ayurvedic-style, can be very helpful.

* Herbs with a calming action, including the commonly available chamomile tea. (Many other herbs are available, see an Ayurvedic health practitioner for recommendations.)

* Some raw-foodies report that running, cycling, swimming, or other aerobic exercise elevates their body temperature and also improves their digestion and the quality of sleep.

* Spices: ginger, cayenne, black pepper, cumin, coriander, fennel, etc. will improve digestion and metabolism. Pungent greens, like mustard, watercress, arugula, are alternatives to pungent spices.

* Tonic herbs: the Ayurvedic herbal blend triphala, strengthens the entire digestive system, and is extremely beneficial for the colon.

* Avoid cold food and liquids. Allow refrigerated items to return to room temperature before consuming.

* Sipping hot water with meals, and in between meals, can help provide warmth to the body. The addition of a small piece of fresh ginger root (about 1/2 inch piece) to hot water will help considerably to increase agni (the digestive fire) and improve digestion and assimilation of nutrients. Adding fresh ginger or a little bit of flax seed oil or olive oil to a vegetable juice will increase the nutrient absorption, increase agni and not aggravate vata as much.

* Using a food blender, or consuming vegetable juices will decrease dryness.

* Adding fresh lime or lemon juice to foods also increases agni due to its sour taste.

* Using organic extra-virgin olive oil, walnut oil or flax seed oil on salads and other dry foods will help diminish their vata provoking quality and provide necessary fatty acids to the diet.

* Chewing a thin slice of ginger sprinkled with salt before a meal will get the digestive juices flowing.

*Chewing fennel seeds after a meal will prevent gas or bloating.

* Relaxing for at least 10 minutes after a meal without getting up and rushing immediately will promote digestion and counteract fatigue after eating.

When it comes to deciding what foods to eat use common sense, eat according to your constitution, eat mostly cooked foods when the weather is cold, when it is foggy or in the evenings. Salads are best eaten at lunchtime (when the digestive fire is strongest), in summer, or when the weather is hot. I am always amazed when I go back to Europe, how healthy and grounded my friends are, even though their diet is not really 100% nutritionally correct (lots of wine, bread, pastries). How is that possible? I think the answer is that they sit down with their friends or families and take time in preparing and enjoying their meals. Here in California a lot of people are just sipping some green protein shake and hurry off to their yoga class. Now when you lovingly prepare your food, and really look forward to eating it, and enjoy every bite, guess what happens? All the digestive juices are flowing at the right time and the body will extract all the nutrients it needs. Food that is gulped down quickly, just because one thinks it is healthy, but is not really enjoyed will actually be harmful to your health!! It does not get digested well and wreaks havoc throughout your system.

So take time in preparing fresh meals, enjoy your food in good company and relax after eating! Happiness is the best digestive aid!

There is always a question of what we can do to make a change in the world. Does it seem life will never be the way you want it to be? Want to know why that is? It is because you are looking at all the challenges as brick walls that you cannot just walk around. When all you have to do is walk around the obstructions or be patient and soon they will pass.

 

How do we make a change in the world is a very deep thing. I say that since you and I have the power to make changes when we choose to. All we have to do is to close our eyes and go within for the answers to what to do next. Its called using our intuition. We can go within to connect with universe at anytime. Answers to all that you want to know about in this life and beyond are there waiting for you.

 

 

How do you make changes by closing your eyes, you say? Well once you close your eyes you are breathing the unlimited source of all life. Just as you are when your eyes are open. Now, you are able to tap into the fountain of knowledge from all that has ever existed.

 

Go within, with the desire to receive answers- Your influence in the world goes beyond both space and time. The world we live in looks as if it is purely physical. However It is not.

 

Say you want to heal someone, see someone get better, create more financial stability in your life. You can simply visualize that. Intend it and that thought will send out an unseen force, fully ignited by your thoughts, words and energy! Then you will affect a  situation without having to be physically present. We have the power to make things happen. Never doubt it. Dream of your ideal life and dream BIG! The world will benefit by your connection to all that is!

 

 

Remember the last time you saw someone yawn at the same time that you yawned? Yes, its an amazing phenomenon. It is amazing! What is most amazing about it is the mystery  of why it happens. Take a guess to why it does. It is because we are just one gigantic connection of consciousness.

 

The one force that animates and moves all things the invisible thing that breathes life into all things and that makes them do what they do. That is the common bond that holds us all together. Feel the connection. It is what you do for YOU that affects the world to a large degree.

 

When you heal yourself, you will send out healing to us All. When you think of the world needs this or that. Think of all existence as one. Remember that. Change happens all the time! The responsibility belongs to all of us. However, It starts with you.

Manifestation Tip: Empower Your Affirmations with Feeling

How are you feeling about your life?

Are you affirming abundance, but believe you have to struggle to make ends meet? Do you affirm what you desire, but expect obstacles in your path? Do you want appreciation, but anticipate criticism? When you state an affirmation, it’s the feeling behind it that counts.

The emotions you feel are what power your affirmations, whether you’re affirming what you want, or unconsciously affirming what you don’t want. When you mutter “I can’t afford a new car,” you’re affirming that circumstance. And the emotion that associates with the declaration energizes it. Therefore, you won’t be able to afford a new car.

Why do you think you have to believe that your goal can happen? Belief is an emotion. Expectation is an emotion. Identification is an emotion. Fear is an emotion. Whatever you’re feeling about the object of your affirmation is what will manifest in your life.

Emotion is simply energy, good, bad or indifferent. The subconscious follows to where you’re sending your power, and gives you what you’re focusing on. Whatever is your dominant thought about the issue wins the race. Your feeling gets the attention of the subconscious.

If you’ve been affirming something in particular, but feeling its opposite as you affirm, you will manifest the feeling. I’ve done affirmations for abundance, but since I couldn’t see how it could happen, I still felt financially restricted. What happened? Every time? The prosperity I did have faded away. I got to experience the physical reality of my fear.

Maybe you’re confident while you say your affirmations, but later you undo all your good work. If you make statements afterwards that contradict your affirmation and reinforce your present beliefs or circumstances, you’ll manifest that. All of your thoughts, words and feelings about it have to be consistent. It’s like a balance scale with two pans. Your old beliefs are on one side, and your new ones are on the other. Until your new beliefs constantly outweigh your old ones, they won’t manifest to the degree you want.

You don’t have to know how your affirmation is going to manifest. You simply have to feel the emotion of having your desire. Stir up the feeling. There’s an old adage, “Fake it until you make it.” You won’t see the reality of your desire until you can feel it. If you have to pretend, do so. You may not know how it can happen, but the Universe and your creative mind know how.

When you affirm, remember that you’re affirming the truth. You’re not changing the Universe’s mind about this issue, you’re changing your mind about it. The Universe is always offering you everything you could possibly want. You don’t have to believe it yet, but recognize that the Universe believes it for you.

Think of the result from the Universe’s point of view. The Universe knows your goal is possible and available for you. By identifying with the perspective of the Universe, you can channel that feeling through your affirmation. Whenever you think about the issue during the day, remind yourself that the Universe is taking care of it. Your trust in the Power of the Universe will energize your affirmation, and you’ll experience it in Divine time.

What If You Were Psychically Open Since Birth?…

 

 What Does It Mean To Be Psychically Open?

 

I am in my office writing an article. Just as i’m about to finish the last part…The phone rings. I notice the name on the caller id, stop writing to answer the phone. In my head i am thinking about the vibration i feel from the person. I do a  quick reading while holding the phone on my shoulder to see how i should handle this situation with my client. This client has been out of touch. They seemed to have come back to life when i was working with them in the past but after 9 months they went back to where they were. This person did not stop doing all the harmful things right after i started working with them. However they made some huge changes. They had many awakenings, in the daytime and at night during their dreams. i will explain what awakenings are shortly.

 

 

On the other end on the line is a dear client who tells me they have been too depressed to leave their home. They do not sound depressed as they explain their multiple  experiences they have had during their unending depression. I listen silently. Intently. My intuition picked up on their challenges instantly. As i listened i heard about 7 key things that told me what i needed to know to assist my client with their situation.

1. They say they’ve been hearing voices.

2. Have not eaten the way they should be eating.

3. They have been having so many vivid dreams.

4. Sometimes they have thoughts about wanting to die

5. They pop pills to hide from reality

6. They speak about other people in the home being a problem.

7. They stopped bathing regularly

 

 

After the last part there was not much silence. I spoke immediately. What have you been focusing on during this time of depression i asked? They said nothing but making money. I knew that was not true. Psychics can see beyond mere worlds people say, if we choose to. I asked the question again with a couple other questions. At first they did not give the answer that i was looking for. Then after a few minutes they came with the truth. They said they were going through a rough time. As i sat on the other end other end of the line there was no doubt about that. Their aura felt heavy, dark and cold. I knew there was warmth in their heart though. That i could feel it. I smiled before i spoke again.

 

From the start of the phone call…They were intent on telling me a story that came to them in their dream state. I listened. The dream showed exactly what needed to happen to erupt this person from their challenge. This was not a scheduled session so i cut straight to the chase. I knew this client for years. Pass lifetimes even. We have a great connection. I knew what they were about to say. I stopped them.

 

I started off…”Listen, you have energy problems. Let me tell you what is going to bring you success here: 1st of all, if you know you have a problem with being joyful, happy motivated. What should you do?” I asked if they had a plan to stop the constant cycles of depression in their life. They said no, they did not. If you want to stop this you need a plan! A regime would do wonders for you. You have to take charge of your life. Now i understand what the ‘people’ have told you but YOU have the power. You are choosing this life. Are you not? When i asked that question they admitted to not really trying. (We had been here before)

 

I spoke again, you need positive things honey. You have to surround yourself with life. If not you will not remember your goal to stop choosing to be down in the dumps. They started speaking about someone else who is tired of them looking a mess. I stopped them- “Look honey you have a choice, do you not?”  You can be around whomever you desire to. This is up to you. Not them.

 

I know you have thoughts coming to you all day. your nervous system is very sensitive. You have to stay on point with things that make you feel good. Your thoughts are coming from a sick body, they will sabotage your efforts. We all have to IGNORE thoughts that do not suit us. That is your challenge. We know you are open psychically, now what are you going to do about it. You have a gift. But you have to nurture it or it can turn into a nightmare for you. I change you to sit down and write a list of how your day is GOING to look. you hold the key! Then i want you to listen to things that keep you on point all day with sticking to your mission. Look all you need is 21 days! Then the new routine will become a habit.

 

What should you be listening to as someone who is psychically open? For one, listen to music, lectures all things that motivate and inspire you to do whatever you want to be or do. You should be listening to stuff like that daily. Meditation music, uplifting, inspiring. Motivational speakers that specialize in the field of study you want to get into or grow more confident in.

 

 

This story is a story i shared because there are other people in the world who share this experience. The issue with this is: People are being told THEY are not in control of their lives 100% of the time. As a healer i have a sense for motivating people to do their best. Obstacles are always in our lives but they question is: What are we going to do to clear them up. I AM SOLUTION ORIENTED 100% of the time. Back to the story.

 

There are people in the world who believe they have a problem, or that something is permenently wrong with them. There is viable information that most people need to know. If they knew the truth about their bodies and brains they would be able to do so much more in life.

 

The world we live in is far more than most know. As a whole we all do things together. There is one connection we each are a part of that oneness. For instance we all breathe together plus we share the same air too! This has been happening since forever. Also, when we yawn, other people yawn directly after us, or the other way around. Cats and dogs yawn too. It’s funny dogs and cats actually yawn before or after people do. Its a divine chain reaction. The World we live in is a strange world some would say.

 

The same way we share oxygen, we share thoughts as well. What my client is having is a major energy shift in her life. Everything she is going through is nessesary for her to evaluate her life and make a choice. She is at a crossroads. That’s all it is. How many times have we all been at one of those. I’ll answer that for you! It’s been Several times in our lives. We go through life learning lessons during our life to grow, evolve and transform.

 

Here are some key things that can HINDER us from having a balanced nervous system:

 

1. Using DRUGS of ALL OF ALL KINDS including alcohol & weed too.

2. Not getting 7- 8 hours of quality sleep per night.

3. Eating an greasy, fried, over salted & cooked, super sugar unhealthy diet.

4. Watching to much television

5. Unbalanced, unclean environment

6. No game plan

 

Women, men and children are born sometimes with very sensitive nervous systems. This happens all the time. What types of things happen when someone is open in this way? Well, they can be pursuaded to do something without words. they can be pulled to do something through thoughts and energy alone. No one ever taught them (Pranayama)  deep breathing, Meditation, Qi Gong, Tai Qi and yoga exercises to assist them in balancing out their life force energy so they can then live joyfully with mastery of their body. Once everyone is taught such things, the world will be a brand new place. Most people have a thought come to them, they assume its their thought. Often it is not, what kinds of things have people done as a result of not knowing that energy is a thoughts. Energy comes before words do. Always has.

 

 

This is why the Law of Attraction we say you have to ignore thoughts that do not serve to push you further. You must feel good and you must have a plan! A psychically open man woman or child can learn much from understanding how to work: The Law of Attraction in their life. You also need to find a metaphysician who is experienced with balancing the life force. I wrote this because my life was all about this. Affirmations Revisited With Joy!

Affirmations are more than a sentence. They are written for the purpose of reaffirming something a person wants to do or remember to do. Affirmations can be used for many things as it relates to the law of attraction they should be used to keep you in line with that which you say you want to attract more of into your life. Always phrase affirmations in terms of what you want rather than what you do not want. The brain cannot evaluate ‘not happy’ without thinking of being unhappy. You get reminded of the words you say whether you adding not or do not want to them. It is important to know what type of intelligence we are dealing with when we speak about the unlimited power within us and the matching stream vibration of unlimited power all around us.

 

Happiness

 

Affirmations can be repeated as many times a day. Pick affirmations that make you feel good. What works for you may not work for another. That is only natural. It is all personal preference. Studies have shown that people who repeat positive words to themselves daily boost their self image to themselves and the world at large. Affirmations are the key to unlocking the motivation that one may lack from minute to minute. It is not enough to say an affirmation if you are not feeling what you are saying. To continue the constant cycle of like attracts like decide what type of energy you want to see more of in your life, then pick your affirmations accordingly. Remember, energy follows thought.

 

 

Here is an exercise to discover what type of affirmations to us: Look at the two affirmations below. Which one will attract more of what you want, and which one will attract more of what you do not want? That is what you have to ask before using an affirmation. OK now for the exercise!
